On September 27 and 28, 1938, Mr. Schaeffer, 41, was interviewed on EASTCHESTER BAY, (On Long Island Sound, vicinity Polham Bay Park), about his experience during Great Depression. He was born in East Bronx 1897 he lived for almost all his life in same place and now for 7 year in Eastchester Bay. His is married and has a son aged 11. With dates Plumber by trade until he moved to Eastchester Bay; now owns small sailboat which is rented out during the summer and indicated that he does odd jobs around neighboring boathouses and an occasional plumbing job.

On December 7, 1997, Tina Spencer interviewed Jay Spencer about his experience during the Great Depression. Jay Spencer, 87, was born in Dublin, Old Mexico in 1910. He moved a few times firs to Poncho Villa, then to Lost Creek. When he got old enough to work, he made a dollar a day which was a lot of money back then. He got married and showed his wife a silver dollar but when he did he dropped it through a crack in the porch. Things were so bad that they tore up the porch just to get the money. He says there was one telephone in town, two or three people had cars, other people had horses and buggies and wagons as a way of transportation, other wise you had to walk. Jay went to four years of high school and the begining of year for college for four years. Jay worked very hard to support his family.

He talks about how if he quits his job he will get only seven dollars a week and that can't support him and his wife. It also explains about another guy named Mike McDonald who says he doesn’t even know what meat tastes like because he doesn’t even have money to afford it.
